My fridge is about 10 years old, and for the past few weeks it has been making ice very slowly. The water dispenser has normal flow, and there's a pretty new filter installed. What can I check?

Hi,
Are the cubes normal size? Freezer temp should be checked with a thermometer.

Yes the ice cubes seem normal. In this fridge the ice maker isn't in the freezer, it's a separate unit on the ceiling of the main refrigerator area.

Take a reading from both. Freezer and the ice maker room.

The fridge is set to 0 for the freezer and 35 for the main fridge.
I have a laser thermometer and measured the freezer around -2, the fridge at 35, and I opened the little flap in the ice maker and measured between 14 and 19 depending on where I pointed it.

Those seem good....but a simple pocket thermometer often works better for testing a refrigerator.....JMO!

Not so good. Ice maker must get below 15ºF before it will even start up.
Fan not working? Duct frozen/frosted over? Refrigerator Icebox Fan Motor should be DC14V.

#21 is the ice maker fan linked here. This is suppose to help remove some of that nice freezer temp air and dump it into the ice maker room. jeff sr. |
