When the ovens electrical wire is plugged in: the igniter begins glowing, gas is ignited and the temperature soars. This happens without setting any controls. Cancel has no affect. To stop the oven requires unplugging its electrical cord.

If I go ahead and set a temperature bake of say 350 degrees; the oven temperature goes to 500 degrees(measured with a smoker temp probe). display only indicates the temp I set it for, once it reaches that temp- oven continues to heat.

The temperature may go well above 500, I didn't want to chance it and disconnected the power cord. I cooked our dinner plugging and unplugging the cord while I monitored the temp with smoker grill probe.
