Frigidaire fridge ice maker burning auger motor.

a 9 years old Frigidaire FGHF2366PF fridge started to smell burnt and we found the ice maker was the cause. Upon disassembly we found the auger motor has burnt insulation on the coil, so we replaced the auger motor - but the new auger motor also burned up parts of the coil insulation and produced a burnt smell; so the issue is elsewhere in the electronics perhaps?

What could it be - any ideas/clues will be greatly appreciated.
