Our dryer stopped working after we got a new water heater

We got a new water heater, and on the same day our clothes dryer stopped working. Had Sears come out, and the technician replaced EVERYTHING he could think of, and it still didn’t work. On a crazy whim we took the dryer over to my sisters, plugged it in, and IT WORKED! Had 3 different electricians come out, and they can’t tell us what the problem is. Said everything looks fine. Crazy side note, when the dryer is plugged in to the wall, our furnace won’t fire up; the furnace just finishes the cycle it’s on, then won’t kick on when the thermostat clicks it on. (It DOES click itself off after a minute, so no fire hazard there). The breakers are separate, and they don’t have a shared neutral. What the heck is going on with our dryer???

Was any work done in your electric panel when the new water heater was installed? Is the water heater working properly now? When you say the dryer stopped working, do you mean absolutely nothing happens or does it just not heat? Explain actually what it does or does not do.

I’m not sure if they were in the panel during the water heater install... 2 of the electricians that came out checked the panel, and said it looked fine. The water heater works fine. Haven’t had any problems with the new one. The furnace still won’t kick on if the dryer is plugged in. AND, if the dryer is plugged in, and the furnace does try to kick on, it trips the furnace panel on the furnace itself, and we have to do a hard reset on the furnace. (We had the furnace tech come out because we couldn’t get the furnace to kick on, and he showed us how to do the reset). As for the dryer, when you push the power button, it makes the 3 “power on” chimes, but that is all; it doesn’t power on all the way. Maybe I need an electrician forum...? Any suggestions?

It sounds like you are having issues with your electrical panel or wiring. either a dropped neutral or perhaps a disconnected neutral on either the dryer circuit or the furnace circuit. or a bad connection on Lead 1 or 2 of the dryer or furnace. the dryer most likely. When the electrician came out did they find you have true 240 volts between lead 1 and 2 coming to the dryer and then did they check for 120 v between each lead and neutral?
I suspect an issue with lead 1 to the dryer which powers the control panel and starts the motor. Lead 2 is only used to power the heating element.
