I have an older Whirlpool Heavy Duty that stops mid-cycle. I will have to manually advance the timer 2-4 clicks in order to get the cycle to begin again. When it does finish, it seems the clothes are more damp than intended. This leads me to believe the machine is failing to go into a sort of "High Spin" mode. I have continuity-checked the lid switch, which is fully functional. This problem occurs on multiple cycles, which leads me to believe it is not the timer. My current suspicion is the shift actuator, but before I purchase a part, I was hoping to get a second opinion and a method with which to test the shift actuator. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Thanks for the reply, I'm glad I posted here and didn't just buy the part impulsively! I just confirmed, the machine definitely spins, just not at certain positions on the timer. This happens on both normal and permanent press cycles (I haven't tried delicate). Are you thinking it's the timer, then? Are there any other parts it could be, or is there a way to test the timer in place?

Okay, I am performing this test now, but in the process I think I may have solved it! As I was allowing the machine to fill, I realized the temperature was set to "hot/cold." Meaning to not waste hot water I turned the machine to "cold/cold" and filling stopped completely. Resumed on any setting with hot water. Is there a cold water inlet valve? Could that have malfunctioned? It seems in line with my symptoms

Edited to add: the machine filled hot water, agitated, drained, and spun, then got stuck before next fill up. When I switched temperature to "hot/warm" it started filling again. I'm now quite confident this is an issue with the cold water supply.

Edited (again) to add: Yep, definitely a cold water supply issue. Unfortunately, it was the old ID10T error, I just didn't have the water tap all the way open. Once opened, the machine ran through all the points it used to hang up. I feel like a dumbass, but its running again! Thanks for all the help!
