My Kenmore series 80 washer ceased agitating and spinning in the middle of a load. I have done enough searching to realize that the lid switch is a major culprit with this model. I have bypassed the switch completely, by jumping two wires behind the control panel. The washer will fill with water. which leads me to guess that the timer switch is operational, but this is a guess. If I turn the timer switch to any other cycle other than filling with water, nothing happens. No agitation, no spinning, no draining, and no noise at all. Which leads me to guess that the motor may be dead. Can someone please help me with troubleshooting steps for this model? Thanks!

Before I changed out the lid switch, I decided to try to run a full cycle, without a load. to see if it would fully fill with water and run any portion of the cycle. the washer fills and agitates but stops working after about 5 minutes of agitation. So the failure occurs at the beginning of a drain or spin cycle would begin. It seemed that I could manually select an agitation cycle, I just didn't know that the agitation section was so short, and it is also not labeled (which is why i stated in my first post that it would not agitate. I cannot manually select a spin, or drain cycle.

I replaced the lid switch, and all of the same behaviors exist. No change.

This did not surprise me, due to the fact that I had completely bypassed the lid switch by shorting the two switch wires together on the timer side. Yes, I removed my bypass once I installed the new lid switch.

No, the only things it will do is fill and agitate. If I try to manually select or advance the timing switch, it will not spin or drain.

I have replaced the timer, and it is still showing the same symptoms. After changing out the timer, I let it run a full cycle. It fills, agitates and then simply stops working, I cannot manually select any other spin or drain cycles. Ideas? Are there any diagnostic checks or troubleshooting steps that we can take? I'd very much like to test to find the problem rather than just changing out parts to see what happens. Is it possible to return the timer that I purchased, since it is clearly not the problem?
