Motor started running on it's on. Lid up or lid down, continues to run. No lights or response to control buttons. Only way to stop motor is to unplug. Where do I start looking to find the source of this problem.

The motor receives power to run from the control board. It sounds as if a relay or circuit is fused closed sending power to the motor. If so this is not repairable but you can replace the control board.
