oven does not want to light and when it does light flame is real low unless I beat on it, and when it don't light all you can smell is gas, any help would be great, cant affgord new stove am on disability

It sounds like you have a weak igniter and it can barely open the gas valve.

I'd replace the igniter.

Please don't beat on parts of a gas range.
