Looking for answers. My husband and i just bought a used washer. It ran through the cycles the first use then started acting funny. It stops mid cycle, then will run for a bit once it cools down. Theres a burning smell after it runs for a while. Once it hits the rinse cycle it will fill, agitate, and drain but it will not spin after that or spray the clothes with the final rinse water. If I let the motor cool down again I can put it on the spin cycle but it clicks loudly and just hums then shuts off again. We replaced the motor couplers and also checked the clutch and it's all fine. But we don't wanna keep replacing parts that don't need it. Any help is appreciated.

It sounds like it could be the motor, but they aren't cheap. $210 yikes! Whirlpool WP8541504 Motor-Drive - AppliancePartsPros.comUnless you could find a used one in good shape. I used to save good motors out of machines I scrapped, but you'd need to find somebody as crazy as I was/am. :)
