Similar to another thread that was posted for a different model, our washer fails to spin all the time - leaving items too wet to move to the dryer. I report that this issue is inconsistent because some cycles will complete without issue.

We experimented by setting the machine to the rinse cycle (low water, no clothes), allowed it to drain, and then opened the door prior to it reaching the spin cycle. The machine immediately started spinning, but we have witnessed times when the door is opened during the spin cycle and the machine is not spinning.

The other article suggested that the problem might be a faulty door switch, causing intermittent issues. Another article suggested it might be the timer.

Give us the model number for an accurate diagnosis. It should be listed on the rim under the lid along with the serial number.
It should begin with a 110. followed by eight more numbers.

One last thing - we did a reset which involved unplugging the washer for at least a minute and then opening and closing the lid 6+ times in 10 seconds after plugging it back in. So far three cycles have gone without issue.

I'm glad to hear your machine is working, however the reset you've tried is for a GE digital control washer. You have an analog (manual) timer control whirlpool, which doesn't have a reset.
Your problem may be a pre-condition of timer failure or a faulty lid switch or a bad clutch or a broken coupler.
If it fails again try seeing when and how it fails.
Get back with us if it does and we can explore step by step to find the reason.

After working for a few days, the problem has returned. I can hear the motor running and the unit is vibrating, but when I quickly open the lid I do not see it stop spinning. Furthermore, there is little to no water being released. I do hear a click when the lid closes and it definitely triggers the motor to begin immediately after.

Very likely then your coupler is broken. Here is the part you need.

Same issue on my washer. Wanted to see if it was in fact the coupler, or the clutch. Thank you!

I just replaced the coupler this morning, and thanks to the online video - it was very straightforward and relatively quick. Unfortunately, I do not think it was the source of the issue as all three of the existing components were in good shape.
