Ramona, I ran into the exact same deal, seems spin cycles always out of balance. I installed new limiter straps (4 of them) and also even a new balance ring, same deal. Ended up being a big weight at the bottom of the machine, it looks like a cottage stone you see in landscape. It has a strap that holds it in place and the bolts worked lose and the brick was banging around. Anytime I heard the machine banging, I would open the lid and the drum looked pretty stable.

Anyway, the brick for mine was loose long enough and the bolt finally fell out in the way of the large driven pulley at the bottom of the machine and destroyed the big pulley. I have a new pulley on its way and drive belt plus new bolts. I ordered from these guys and got it next day freight. I have about a 4 yr old GE and its been banging for several years, just gotten worse now. This should make it as quiet as a mouse.

The machine was designed for speed during assembly line and this makes it such a simple and quick machine to take apart. After parts show up, I should be washing in under an hour. I am a auto tech by trade, so this stuff is a snap for me. These guys on this site are first class and get all my parts from them too.
