After putting in the third tray of cookies, the top element became very hot. I tried to open the oven door and it was locked. I tried to turn off the oven, but the element remained hot. Fearing a fire I turned off the power. There might have been an error code, but when I put the power back on it was no longer there. I tried pre-heating the oven after it cooled down and the top element again came on and did not shut off. I turned off the oven before it got too hot and the door locked. Is it repairable?

Hello Kathy,
This can be caused by a bad temperature sensor Part number: AP4321511
Part number: AP4321511
, an issue with the harness from the temperature sensor to the control, or the control Part number: AP4982698
Part number: AP4982698
.

Kathy, Yes it's repairable. It may need a new EOC / Control board Part number: AP4982698
Part number: AP4982698
, but it is repairable. It could be a stressed circuit or relay for the broil element, or a degrading circuit in the control causing several components to operate erratically and/or "stick" causing the problem.
