I have a estate washing machine. The machine will fill, agitate, and drain but when it goes to spin it makes a humming sound and i have to go lift the lid sometimes several times to get it to spin. I have replaced the clutch and its still having the same problem. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Most of these models have a neutral drain. That is, when the machine drains the transmission is in neutral so that the basket is not trying to spin while it is full of water. At the end of the drain part the timer pauses the motor, causing the transmission to shift into reverse and start spinning.

The timer is not pausing, so when you open the lid that causes a manual pause.

Try replacing the timer and that should fix things, but if you don't want to pay for a new timer you can continue what you are doing.
