I was temporarily wiring a Maytag dryer for a one day use. The connection block has three terminals. My temporary 3 wire cord has a blk white and grn wire.
I first hooked a Blk. wire to an outside post, the White wire(which is hot) to the middle post and green wire to an out side post. The dryers timer buzzed when I hit the start button and it tripped the ground fault circuit breaker. I went on line and realoized I wired it wrong, that the hot wires, blk, and whitr should be on outside posts and the green in the middle post.
Now every time I try to start dryer it pops the circuit breaker.
Any ideas how I cant fix it again so it will operate.
Thanks, I'm really in a bind as I need the dryer in a couple of hours.

Here are your parts Parts for Maytag MDE9306AYA Dryer - AppliancePartsPros.comIt has a wiring layout but not a wiring diagram. Sounds like you blew something in the dryer. First you have to check the power. Try flipping the breaker off/on slowly a couple times. Sometimes you can loose half the line without actually tripping the breaker. Check the voltage at the wall receptacle L1 to L2 should be 240 volts L1 to Neutral and L2 to Neutral, both should be 120 volts. If OK Unplug the unit and check the wires at the terminal strip in the machine to make sure none are loose or burned out If OK Check the power at the terminal strip. Do this with the unit off. Then with the unit on but set to air dry (may be called fluff) Then with the unit set to a heating cycle timed dry. Then to whatever cycle is blowing the breaker now. [COLOR="Red"][COLOR="Red"]Be careful as 240 volts is lethal !!![/COLOR][/COLOR] You had a dead short to ground so you may even have messed up the breaker. Also was the dryer wired for 3 wire or 4 wire before If 4 wire then you have to add a ground strap. |

Denman your advice was excellent. Went through your checklist, by trial and error I determined I must have fried the ground fault breaker, I replaced breaker and all is well. I presume when I wired it wrong on the dryer I did cause a direct short back to the breaker, being a ground fault it would show 240v but when I turned on dryer it wouldn't supply the load.
