Dryer stops running after 20 min on heated cycle

The dryer runs for 20 min or so on the timed heated cycle. Then it stops and you have to wait to start it again, then it only runs for 3-5 min. If you let it cool down fully it will run for about 20 min again. I thought it might be the Dryer cycling thermostat (3387134) so I ordered a new one (received in 2 days). I installed it and have the exact same issue. Now I am thinking I might need the Dryer Thermal Cut-Off Kit. I am hoping for some advice before I buy more parts. If you run it with the no heat option, this does not occur.

It will not be either of the parts you list as they just shut off the heat not the motor. Here are your parts Parts for Whirlpool LER5620KQ1 Dryer - AppliancePartsPros.comIt sounds like the motor is overheating and tripping it's internal thermal protect. You then have to wait for the motor to cool down and the protect to reset before you can restart it. Could be that the Seal Blower Shaft (Item 22 in Section 03) is bad and hot air is blowing back onto the motor. Also check that the drum turns fairly easily. If it is putting too much drag on the motor this will also add to the problem. You may want to try this on a couple other units to get a feel for it. |

You will have to open the unit up so you can see it. |

Well, I opened it all up again tonight. The drum seems to roll fine. The blower seal looks ok to me. I vacuumed the whole thing out, but there still seems to be a lot of dust and lint inside the motor. I am going to try to get that out tomorrow. Do you have any other ideas??

Yes give the motor a good clean.
Sounds like the motor is on it's last legs. |
