I have a steady knocking noise when it agitates. This started after I replaced the thrust bearing under the machine because the brake would not release and allow it to spin. It now spins great and washes good except for the pronounced knocking. I fear that something is going to be damaged if it continues.

It is almost impossible for us to diagnose noises from afar, because we really need to be there to hear it and tell where it is coming from.
Operate the machine with the front panel off and see if the noise is coming from the transmission. If so, the machine is probably terminal so go ahead and use it until it breaks for good.
