Looking for help with common problem with a twist...

I've learned that the diffuser (upper left of fridge) piece is notorious for going bad and creating a clicking sound every 5 seconds (sound of small plastic door opening and closing constantly). I've read examples of where this piece was replaced and problem solved.

However, in my instance I'm also getting a small amount of ice build up around the diffuser casing which is tacking on to the problem and excelerating the breakdown of the diffuser (I think).

The current freezer temp is set to 2 degrees and the fridge is set to 37.

Any help would be great.

The diffuser is most likely bad. If it has a wire harness on it, unplug it and prop it open to see if it cools the fridge down.
The ice is probably forming because the moisture near the diffuser opening is freezing, moisture caused by warm fridge and cold freezer.

I've had it unplugged for about a week with the flap open partially and the fridge seems to be cold enough, and the freezer is fine.

That's what I suspected would happen. Replace it at your discretion, it appears to be faulty, or run it as you are.

To follow up, still a problem going on and now I'm stumped. I replaced the diffuser and left the plastic cover off to monitor. While the diffuser did it's job of opening/closing, within a few week it had built up enough ice below the flap that it strained the it from opening all the way which is what I think broke the previous one. Luckily this time I've unplugged it so it wouldn't damage it but of course my fridge side is now too cold with the flap stuck open.

At this point I will say it seems as though the freezer side may be too cold at all times. Everything in it has a thin build up of frost and when you open it you're greeted with a blast of cold air. This is even after I've decreased temp from 0 to 4.

Feedback has been great, would definitely appreciate more guidance.
