Hello, I have a Maytag top load washer that recently does not spin out enough water from clothes no matter what load size. Before this it would get off-load a lot and bash the side of washer with tub. I checked that all 6 tension springs are in place. I noticed a week ago, with lid open and door latch depressed, that it would start spinning faster than it would make a jerk and slow down again and try to get back up to speed like it was slipping. I just checked belt and it seemed alright but will go ahead and replace as it’s over 8 years old but want to know what else to look at. Clutch, transmission, motor?

I was able to turn the brake pulley both ways without the belt attached as some sites suggest to test to see if anything is bound up. Any help you can advise and ways to test will be much appreciated.

Updated:
I did find a video that says if I cannot turn the pulley easy to to left which should turn the agitator it could be transmission, if I turn it right it should release the brake and turn agitator one way and drum the other. I noticed it does not turn the drum at all. could this issue be caused by the brake assembly?

Spin problems on these Maytag models can usually be fixed by replace this part,

Part number: AP4009132
Part number: AP4009132

It is an easy job, note the video, and it helps to have a helper.
