Hi, I have a kenmore refrigerator, the compressor cycles on for about 4-5 sec then you hear a click and it shuts off, and remains off for roughly 3-4 min and the process repeats.......so it's not cooling......the fans are working and the condensor coils were very dirty, so I cleaned them and I tested the compressor with a continuity test and got 11.6, 7.0 and 5.1 ohms respectively.......I removed the start device.relay, shook it and heard no real rattling, then ohmed out the top side by side pis and got 10 ohms....research shows 1-12 ohms?? I've been thinking about buying a hard start device to verify the compressor is mech okay, I don't wish to buy a start up relay and capacitor to the tune of 80 bucks if it's not the cause.......Are there anymore sure fire ways to diagnose the compressor is bad?? I was thinking that the start device relay could be bad/weak??? but if I buy a hard start kit I see they use a amp clamp to test compressor current draw........I don't have such, I have a blue point multimeter, but don't want to pop the fuse if amp draw goes over 10 amps when compressor cuts on....they say spec draw should be around 1 amp??...........any help to verify the compressor is bad here would be appreciated???? if such is the case I'll just get a new fridge but don't want to jump the gun if it only needs a relay??
