When I try to start a load, after I hit the start button I can hear that the lid locks and then the "sensing" light comes on. After that, a small amount of water comes out, then there is a pause, and then another small amount of water comes out, and then there is a very long pause and the washer never fills. During this time the lid stays locked, and the "sensing" and "lid locked" lights stay lit. If I leave the lid washer for a long time (over an hour), the "wash" light will eventually turn on. At this point I can open the lid and see that nothing has actually happened... no water, no washing, nothing.

I have tried pausing the cycle to rearrange the clothes or add more clothes and resuming the cycle. I've also tried canceling the cycle and restarting it. I have tried other cycles, but all with the same result (normal versus heavy). I've also unplugged the washer for several minutes and plugged it back in. Nothing seems to work.

I have only had this washer for about 2.5 years now and am hoping this is an easy fix I can do on my own. Thank you for your help!

Inside the top is a set of tech notes that will show you how to do some diagnostics and test some components. It may be the main control unit that is the problem, in which case the diagnostic mode will probably fail. If it is the control unit the cost of the replacement is so high that you probably would be better or getting a new basic top loader. If you do avoid one with any electronics for reasons you are only now too familiar with.

Good luck, wish I could provide more insight but these models are prone to problems and difficult to diagnose from afar.
