I went to change to a 4 prong power cable and when I did, some of the other wires that were on the power posts slid off. I'm not sure where they go now. I have attached a picture of how I have it wired now, but doubt that it is correct. I am mostly concerned about the 2 wires that I have drawn arrows to in the attachment, but would love to hear if you see something else wrong as well. The dryer will run this way, but I thought it might be too hot and might smell something burning, so I cut it off and came here. I could just be paranoid, but wanted to make sure. Thanks in advance for you help!

A model number may be useful.
May be able to find a wiring diagram or install sheet for it.

Here are your parts
Parts for Maytag LDE8704ACE Dryer - AppliancePartsPros.com

Here is a service manual.
http://appliancejunk.com...e&id=53;t=1417249492
You will have to join the site and be logged in to be able to download the manual.

Install info is on page 1-13.
The wiring diagram is on page 5-40.

The ground strap is item 4 in section 02 of the parts.

Just a couple things.

I am assuming that your line cord is 4 prong and also 4 wire.
And that the green/ground wire is out of shot in the picture.
The difference between 3 and 4 wire is:
On 3 wire the ground and Neutral are the same.
On four wire the ground and Neutral are separate.

Though not a safety issue L1 and L2 are reversed.
So the black cord wire should go to the upper terminal with the black and yellow/black wires.
The red cord wire then goes to the lower terminal with the blue wire.

The ground strap should be disconnected and then the line cord ground wire (green) is connected to the frame screw.
The white cord wire stays connected to the center terminal.
