First off i am new to the forum so Hello. I have a Kitchenaid trash compactor model number KUCS03CTSS that is 18 months old and it makes a grinding noise when compacting. From what i can tell is when the ram gets to its down position it starts grinding instead of going up. I can use the on/off switch to turn the unit off and when i turn the unit back on it grinding has gone away and the ram comes up. This happens in normal postion on the push button switch.

I replaced the top limiter switch and that didnt fix the problem.

I also inspected the power nuts and could see no cracks and the ram stops look good.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Ok I replaced the power nuts thinking they might have been stripped but still no luck. I will run tests on the rotary and the solid/normal pack switches next

I think your kitchen compactor needs cleaning and oiling. There might be some part of it which is not working properly. A simple cleaning and oiling will resolve the issue.
