here in central pa.this morning it was -6 degrees.i have a trane heat pump w/ a 10kw heat strip. it struggled all day to keep it half decent in here. could I put a larger heat strip in & what benefit would it do?

Most likely you could add a bigger heat strip but most likely you would have to increase to a bigger wire feeding the air handler/heat strip. You almost need to talk to a Trane dealer to see what fits your system and what other sizes and wiring needs you would need for a heater.
