I have a Kenmore compactor modle#665.13605790. It compacts part way then sounds like it is stripping gears. then I have to turn the start knob to return the ram. Can you tell me what might cause this problem? Thank you.

Check this switch for continuity.
When the switch is in "solid pack" position, the "O" & "O-B" circuit should be closed and the "O" & "Y" should be open.
When the switch is in "normal" position, the "O" & "O-B" circuit should be open and the "O" & "Y" should be closed.
Replace the switch if the reading is different.
In order to provide the right part number for the switch I need the color of the control panel.
Gene.
