It's an electric dryer. When I turn the start switch it hums, but the drum does not turn. I did hold the switch, hold the start switch, and turned by hand. It moves easily, but will not start. I also checked while doing that to see if there was any heat, or air flow, and I didn't notice any. I didn't do this for long, so perhaps it might have heated up. It's a 7 year old dryer, not happening at a good time but it never does does it?

Thank you.

Thanks for your answer. I will take it apart today to check the belt and see if it is stretched out or broken, but I was worrying about the motor as you suggested. Is there any way I could check this out--the motor I mean? If the belt looks bad I would have an investment of only $22.00 buying it here, so won't lose a lot.

I doubt it is the belt as it looks like the unit has a belt interlock switch.
So if the belt was loose or broken the motor should not get any power.

You are the best denman--I am going to start looking for dryers. At least I can hang the clothes for now. Thank you again for your help. Glad I found this forum.
