Whirlpool microwave had very loud noise like a vibration at turn on. Afteer 10/15 seconds there is a odor of overheated components. I have checked the HV diode and it is OK. Checked the capacitor and it too is OK. The Magnetron has an ohm reading of 25 ohm from terminals to case on the 2k ohm scale. That tells me it is shorted and defective.
Is it difficult to replace? I did TV service for nearly 40 years so am familiar with electronic.
The part number is listed as AP4412010 on this site but is listed as out of stock with no restocking date listed. Any suggestions Gene>
If this is a duplicate post I apologize.

You are on the right track with the diagnosis. The magnetron is not too difficult to replace - just ton of screws. In order to access the part you have to remove the microwave from the cabinet and remove the outer case.
You may want to talk to the APP customer service regarding the part ETA. The part number you posted is the correct part number.

Thanks Gene. I have the microwave out of the cabinet. I can see four screws holding up the magnetron and they look like star or spline heads. Nor much room to access them either. Suggestions or are there special wrenchs to access the screws?

It's better to remove the outer case and the vents to gain easier access.

Thanks Gene. I should have said that I have the outer case off and the vents also. I will take a better look at the frame this weekend to see if I can access the mounting screws.
