I have a good washing machine. After 10 years we finally had a problem. A small piece of metal got sucked into the pump and punctured the large hose that drains the machine. Have a new hose, no worries there. We need to know if the pump impeller was damaged. The pump works, we tested that. What we need to know is whether the blades of the pump impeller are supposed to contact the sides of the pump housing. The inside of the pump housing is 2". The diameter is the pump impeller is 1 11/16". IF the metal piece made it through that far and wore down or damaged the impeller blades, now is the time to replace it, when we have the thing apart. Thoughts, suggestions etc.?

Since that pump is kinda expensive I would put the old one back in, make sure the blades do not contact the housing and see what happens.

You now know how to tear it down if you do need to replace the pump later on.
