Hopefully you already discovered this since I'm replying to a year-old post. But for anyone interested:
The ceramic piece that is up against the back of the oven needs to stay screwed in, and it is essentially an electrical outlet receptacle. The broiler unit has 3 metal prongs which plug into the outlet. Give the broiler unit a good yank and it should disengage from the outlet and slide out.
