Hi, I have a 15+ year old dryer...it started making a louder than usual humming noise in the last week and yesterday it completely stopped working. I have taken it apart and tested the different components with a multimeter and all the parts seem to show resistance...any other thoughts on trouble shooting the problem? When I press the start button, it makes a loud humming noise for a few seconds then stops. I do not know if the drum was spinning but when i try to rotate the drum manually, it does not rotate

Hi.

The model number you provided is incorrect. Please check and re post.
Try to turn the motor both directions. Is it jammed?

Simon.

hi simon, the model # is C110_8170091...reading it directly off the stamped plate by the door...is the C a designation for Sears Canada (I do live in Canada)? Other information serial#9GK3891, Type DR-6, 120/240 Volts, 24 Amps, 60HZ

I can turn the motor shaft in both directions however when the dryer was still assembled, I could not seem to rotate the drum

Hi.

Yes, you are right. It's a Canadien model number, I can't look it up.
Try to do this - tape the door switch in, push the start button and turn the drum.
If the dryer starts, then the motor is bad.
Sorry, can't be more specific.

Simon.

hi Simon, I reassembled the dryer and pressed start and it seems to be working again????

I ran it a few minutes empty and it sounded ok. I tried a full load and noticed the dryer sounds being louder. after the dryer stopped, it restarted (as per normal) and it sounded like a loud screech at first and then back to normal. IS this an indicator the drum belt needs to be replaced? That the belt is becoming worn and not gripping the drum as snugly as before?

It's not the belt. Check if the drum is rotating freely. Also it may be the motor.

Simon.
