Our 9 year old KitchenAid Superba side-by-side refrigerator is hot on the vertical divider area between the freezer and refrigerator doors. We first noticed that the rubber seal on the refrigerator door was hot and then felt the face of the divider area of the fridge where the seals make contact with it. We cleaned the coils under the refrigerator, cleaned behind and under the unit. A sister's exact same refrigerator caught fire last year. Any ideas on why that strip would be so hot? Do we have a lurking fire danger? What can we do?

Your model number seems to ne missing several digits at the end.

Also are you sure that the last digit is a 1?
Could it be a capital i.

Excuse me but I have to rant here!!!
Used to be that the only numeral used in model numbers was 1.
Then some idiot at Whirlpool decided to confuse things by using 1's, I's and L's. They even use 0's and O's.
OK that feels better.

Did you clean the front kick plate?

Does the condenser/compressor fan run?
Does it run at full speed?

I have the same problem with mod. ksrg25fkss02. Before this problem occurred, I had trouble with the door seal. I replaced the fresh food door seal (magnetic gasket) and the lower door hinge cam.

I'd be very interested to hear your resolution.
