When I push the start button on my dryer it automatically sets to 26 minutes and won't allow me to adjust any of the settings. That is, if the control panel lights up and starts at all.

Did you try to set a different cycles and/or options before you pushed the start button?
What is the color of the key panel?
Gene.

Gene. I did not. Sometimes it will not start at all. The panel is gray.

Most likely the problem is a bad control panel but there is a small chance for the control board to be bad as well. Try to determine which part is bad by performing the diagnostic test and test #5 as described in the attached tech sheet. - The control board Part number: 280070
