After a load of laundry is done drying, my dryer often begins to smell like gas. It doesn't do it every time, but very often. It only does this after the clothes are done drying, not while the dryer is running. I was told I may need new coils, but am not sure if that is the case, or if there may be another problem as well. Also, I checked the line running from the house to the dryer, and no gas leaks there. The leak only occurs after the dryer is finished drying, and cannot be smelled constantly, so I am fairly certain the leak is from the dryer, and not from some other place in the house. Lastly, the schematics to my dryer show three coils, a booster coil, a second coil, and a holding coil. I think the booster and second coils are the ones that get replaced, but am not sure. I am wondering if the holding coil gets replaced, or if it cannot be replaced, or replacing it is not required. :)

I don't think it has something to do with the coils.
How strong is that smell?
I would suggest to call a local gas company to verify and pinpoint that gas leak with their special leak detectors. Such service is free.
Gene.
