it appears that the treads holding the agitator bolt to the trans. is stripped in the transmission. is there an easy fix.

I assume the bolt is out. If you have or get a tap and die set you may be able to make new threads for either the existing bolt or for a slightly larger one.

Alternatively you may be able to use a threaded insert. Check at a good hardware store.
