I have a 1987 Whirlpool LE2000XS electric Dryer and it started making a sqeeling sound today. It also smells strange and sounded as if the drum wasnt rotating as it should. I turned it off cleaned out the lint trap and venting hose and tried it again. It seems to be working fine but it squeels now. Can someone please help with any ideas and resolutions, thnx.

Try to isolate where the squealing is coming from.
I know this may not be possible because the whole cabinet seem to squeal.

There are quite a few things that can cause it.
At the rear you have the drum support rollers. Also something may have got into the blower and is scraping.

Center you have the belt idler wheel. May also be the motor bearings.
Then on the front you have the drum support glides (bearings) ( Item 7 in Section 4)

Another thing to check is if something has jammed in between the drum and the frame. Run your fingers around the back and front seals of the drum inside. Be careful in case it is something sharp. Wires from bras are famous for this.
