The belt has been replaced 3 times. after first repair it lasted 15 months, after the second repair 2 months. Each time the belt has burned on the motor pulley but nothing seems to be froze up. happens at the start of spin cycle. Each time after belt is replaced the machine works. They do say that it gets louder during the spin cycle. Could it be the spring that cotrols idler tension?

You probably have bad spin tube bearings or a bad pump. Pull the front panel and check pump and tranny pulley. You can usually see water damage coming from the bottom of the tub if a bad tub seal/bearing.

I did notice a area of rust about 1/4" wide and 2" long above the trans.on what looked like a hub area, but was not wet at this time. Is that it?
