Our Kenmore dryer has always worked just fine, then starting yesterday it would run for a few minutes and cut off. I can turn the drum inside the dryer with my hand easily. When it was running for that few minutes it was heating (I stuck my hand in after it cut off and checked and it was hot.) My husband unplugged it, pulled the back off and cleaned what he could easily get too (there is no obvious mechanical parts showing). We plugged it back in and now it will not turn on at all. I need some ideas as I am out of work and really cannot afford a new dryer or having to go to the laundromat constantly to dry my clothes. Any help is appreciated!!!

Hi Elizabeth
You are going to need a multi-meter, or even better a friend with a multi meter. You want to check the following.
1. Determine that you have 120v to each side of the terminal block.
2. Check the thermal fuses/thermostats for continuity.
3. Check the door switch to make sure it is not broken or shorting out.
4. Check the heating element for continuity, resistance and make sure it is not broken or grounded.
5. See if the problem exists for all cycles.
Somewhere in here you should find your problem, but if you do not post what you found out and we will try some other stuff.
Good luck.
