We own a Montgomery Ward stove purchased in 1978. The stove is in excellent condition and we would rather not replace it. Recently , the oven quit working. The igniter lights up bright yellow, but the burner will not kick on. Can you advise what the problem might be and whether I can fix it myself with the proper replacement part ?

Sounds like you have a weak ignitor. The model # listed doesn't come up as a gas range but I believe the below link might be of assistance. Mainly the first part of the link. Most glow bar ignitor systems work the same.
