My microwave looks, smells, and sounds normal but it wont heat. If i set the power to 50% i hear it hum and turn off but no heat. I checked the resistance of the capacitor and magnetron which were within spec. The diode however appears to open in both directions. It does not appear damaged in any way. Would a bad diode cause these symptoms

Replace the Magnetron!
I just did this morning (same unit exactly as yours with identical symptoms!)
And you must test the diode with a 6-12V battery to get the correct results....forget about using an ohm meter to test it.
If the diode is good, replace the magnetron.
