The range top burners do not spark although oven and everything else works fine. I obtained a new (unopened package) OEM spark igniter module (same model as original) and replaced it making sure wiring was replaced as it should be. Still no spark at any burner. I have not yet checked for 120V and polarity although wires were not switched around. Thanks for any help.

Yesterday, two days after above, I turned on a burner and there was a loud explosion and the power breaker tripped. I reset the breaker and stove ok again, but upper burners still not sparking. Is something shorting, and if so what ?

In order to provide the most accurate advise I need the complete model number of the range.

XL44 is not a model number.

Can you be more specific on the problem?

Yes, the stove top burners do not light automatically. The ignitor stopped clicking awhile ago forcing us to use matches. I just ordered a new ignitor unit . Hopefully that will solve the problem.
It is a GE XL44 Model JGBP30AEW1AA.
The ignitor is a Kool Lite Harper-Wyman Model 6544G10.

If you have any other suggestions on how I can test that I'm replacing the right part, I would appreciate it.
There is no spark and no clicking sound.

Thanks!

Yes, you were right. Most likely the problem is a bad spark (ignition) module.

- The part number for the spark module in the APP data base is AP2020570

Gene, I just replaced the same module in my GE stove top and the burners all light very nicely now. :) The problem I am having is that there seems to be an intermitant spark to all burners even when the control knobs are all in the "Off" position or when they are in the "ON" positions. The spark seems to be taking place on a regular interval of 3-4 minutes apart but I have not timed it down to the second.

Is this a regular (safety) feature of the ignitor module or is it a problem with the new ignitor? If it's not normal, can you suggest a fix?

Thanks.
