My dryer used to make that irritating squeaking sound, which I know to mean that i need to replace the rollers. Well, that noise just stopped one day, and the dryer started running like a dream again. Yesterday, i pulled my clothes out of the dryer, and there were precise black marks, no longer than 2 inches, ALL over each of my shirts. These marks were not random, it almost looked like it was done on purpose, it was very precise. Unless someone is hiding in my dryer with a magic marker and a bad attitude....Any idea what the problem could be, and how would i fix it? I would like to not have to replace my dryer.

Hi Semfimarine

How black marks get inside a closed dryer has always been a mystery, at least to me.

Given that you had what sounds like roller noise, it may be that your rollers are disintegrating and that the debris is getting inside the dryer and despositing itself on your clothes. The uniform marks could come from the tumbling nature of the drum.

I would replace the rollers, front seal and drum bearings. These are all inexpensive and should be done on a dryer your age anyway. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

Good luck
