I have a GE GSS25XGPAWW side by side refrigerator that stopped cooling last week and with the great instruction provided by richappy I was able to reasonably determine it was a main control board problem. I installed the part plugged in the refrigerator and voilà cold. I left the controls at the default setting of “5” freezer and “5” refrigerator and let it run per instructions for 24 hours to achieve the proper temperature. Checking the thermometers the next day (and the frozen milk, juice pickles) the freezer was at 19 degrees and the refrigerator at 20 degrees. I reset the controls several times ending up at “2” freezer and “1” refrigerator with the same readings and the Ice and Water through the door no water the line was frozen too. Prior to last week’s problem when it just stopped cooling the refrigerator had run properly that is the refrigerator was maintaining a cold foods temperature of between “35” and “39” (freezer holding 29 to 30) at a setting of “5” freezer and “4” refrigerator. Is this and indication the main control board I received is defective or I have another part that failed and if another part any idea of which one? Any directions on how to test the suspected part would also be appreciated.
Thanks.

The freezer coils may be frozen indicating a defrost failure. If so, defrost the coils, and let it run for a period, then remove the 3 pin power connector from the motherboard and put a wire jumper between the connector mating pins that are labled line and def. If no defrost, you have a bad heater or defrost thermostat, if defrost, you have a bad board.
If defrost ok, you may have a bad pin on j1 connector in the motherboard that connects the thermistors,

I let the refrigerator run for about 2.5 – 3 hours and the thermometer in the cold food section was showing 22 degrees; I set it in the freezer and it dropped to 20 degrees. I unplugged the refrigerator and opened the main board access panel and noticed it seemed to be very hot; I lightly touched the top of one of the components and almost burnt my finger. Would this be normal? I removed the power connector, installed the jumper between the line and defrost connections and plugged the power cord back in. Looking in the freezer compartment I could a red/orange glow and within a minute or two heard water sizzling also the lower back freezer panel got very warm to the touch. I let it run for a few minutes then unplugged the refrigerator, removed the jumper and reattached the power connector to the main board. It would seem that I received a bad main board and will request parts ship a replacement. Should I have let the defrost test run longer and if so how long? Richappy thanks again for your help so far you are batting 1000.

Sure seems like a bad board. If the original factory tape on the box was removed, that confirms it's a returned item, I received one like that and it was bad.
