I have a Kenmore electric dryer , Model# 1106608922--old--maybe 20 yrs or more.
It works fine but just lately it got very hot. The top of the unit got so hot that you can't put your hand on it!
I have checked the blower and it works fine; I also checked for lent buildup and venting and they are fine.
Air comming out of the blower outlet hole is very hot --again can't hold your hand in front of it. On "air" only --there is not a problem as it appears that the heating element is not on.
Could it be the theromotat or is there a highheat cut off?

I would take off the blower wheel cover and make sure it is clean, but sounds like you have determined the dryer is freely blowing air.

In that case I would replace each thermostat and the high limit cut off. Sounds like more than one of these components is not working.

Good luck, hope that fixes it.
