The part should be delivered today. I was hoping to get it earlier for the weekend when I had time to replace it. Anyway, I'll put it in as soon as I can. I'll probably defrost manually again, then it might take a couple of weeks to know for sure if it's working right.

I replaced the thermistor a few days ago. The old one did seem to be bad when I tested it, it showed about 1.7K ohms when it should have been about 16.3K. The others tested OK. I'll probably take a look at the coils in a few more days out of curiosity, but will likely need to wait a couple of weeks to know for sure if it's working correctly.

The fridge seems to be working fine now. It's been over 4 weeks since replacing the thermistor and there haven't been any problems. Thanks for your help Gene.

Looking at the picture on the first page, it looks like my coils when they were froozen over. I completely defrosted them yesterday. Freezer and fridge are cooling properly now. While I am waiting to see if it freezes up again, I am going to order the thermister since it is so cheap. However, when I removed the back panel there was a green wire partially sticking out the top of the panel near the light bulb. It had a clip like metal thing on the end. Without taking the panel back off and taking a picture of it, does anybody know what it is for and if it needs to be attached to anything??

Most likely this is the ground wire to connect the ground to the rear panel.

Yeah, that should be the ground wire that just clips to the top of the panel.
