I have a maytag mdg3706aww gas dryer, no heat , i took off front panel and saw a situation where the igniter will come on for 10 seconds or so then turn off, after 20-25 seconds will come on again and this repeats many times, I changed the igniter first (had heard sometimes they glow but dont generate enough millivolts to open gas valve) strike one. I then read it is probably gas valve coils , I put ohmmeter on coil with 2 leads and it was open, also i put voltmeter on connector to coil that was bad and when igniter glowed then 120volts was fed to coil, I thought I had problem solved. coil with 3 leads seemed ok, I checked parts availability and entire gas valve had to be purchased . since this would be cost prohibitive i traced down coils by using the white rodgers gas valve numbers I replaced coils no change in problem strike 2, Trying to determine how much to invest in repairs on this dryer, I have only spent $34 on 2 repairs but have not fixed problem. My recollection is I bought dryer in 2007 for approx $350-$400 not sure, it looks like it could be gas valve , over $100 (hoping someone can help with better diagnosis than I am doing) , looking for some input... thank you very much steve

How can I verify what I suspect?, gas valve has failed and needs to be replaced. could new coils be the problem? any other options? It just doesn't seem to be worth spending a minimum of $100 prob more with shipping to repair a dryer worth $350 new and now approx 5 years old
