I don't have the model number because I am not home right now, I will post it later.

I have a top loading washer that was built in 2002 I am pretty sure. Problem started when we smelled smoke and the tub was not turning last week The motor was running but not turning the belt. I pulled the belt and replaced it...only to find out it was not the belt. The washer works fine until we get to the spin cycle. At that point it doesnt want to move. If I give the tub a little twist, then it goes fine...works until the next spin cycle. It doesnt take much to get it turning.

I have looked online but all the videos etc are for direct drive washers. Mine has a belt. Motor is fine...I pulled the cover back off, and under the transmission there is a shaft that goes down to the pulley. In between the pulley and the transmission is some kind of neck. when I looked around there, there was some kind of a thin metal seal or something that was coming out of there. I thought that this was some kind of bearing...but I cant seem to find anything that relates to a bearing in this type of washer. I pulled the metal out, but it does not seem to change anything.

I found one simple diagram that looked like the right part and called it a brake assembly...that kind of looks like the right part but I dont know.

Has anyone seen anything like this? Any ideas? If it is the brake assembly how difficult a repair is that?

I got home. The model # GWX933AS1
checking on this website with the model number it looks like there might be a bearing. How hard would that repair be for a novice?
