Just moved intoan older home with a real clean looking Tappan range/oven. It is a manual unit with knobs for ON Off and temp control. When set to 325, oven runs up to 450-475. I checked with fluke temp meter and probe.
I can't seem to find any info on the web on this model, Any help would be appreciated. I looked at the temp control and it has part number DT1-40-42.

Are you sure you didn't transpose a couple of the digits and the model number is actually suppose to be MEF402WCW3 ??

If the temperature is out that much, you likely need a new thermostat. :(

Thanks Dan, It is a WCW3. The link you sent showed the Thermostat at 265.86, so I guess I will opt for the 3.25 oven thermometer. Thanks , Joe

Yes, the thermostat used on your model is towards the upper scale of what they can go for.

UserPostedImage I would *strongly* suggest you do not let the appliance out of your site while using the oven because if the thermostat is out that much, there may be a very good chance it will eventually fail totally possibly resulting in uncontrollable heating in which case your oven could pose a very real fire hazard!
