washer fills but does not agitate. It will spin and rinse, just will not agitate. What could be the problem?

Pull off the agitator (but be careful, it can suddenly release and smack you in the face) and replace this piece Part number: AP3964635
If that does not fix things, take off the front panel and observe the machine while it is supposed to be agitating. If the motor is running and the transmission pulley is turning, it may be the transmission. If the motor is not running the timer could be suspect.

I'm leaning toward the timer because I do not hear the motor running. Thanks for your help.
