I have an OLD GE Washer WWA8320G whose agitator is slipping. Spins and drains water perfectly, but agitating cycle does not catch the agitator (motor actually working). If manual physical pressure is applied to the top of the agitator is "catches" and agitates. Is this a problem with the stem (male) that fits into the plastic agitator or could the molded grooves in the agitator have worn out, or is there some other potential issue?

Thanks beekay519 - agitator spline referenced by Gene above did the trick - a challenge getting the old one out, but with some persistence and pounding with a nail punch it finally kicked out -
