My 1984 Whirlpool washer Solid State Mark II Series fills correctly, but when agitation starts the water is pumped out while agitating until a minimum level is reached and then it refills. This continues until the proper washing cycle time is achieved.

Any ideas on cause and parts needed?

Also, the Load Size Selector is not functioning - so am getting the maximum fill allowed rather than able to do small loads.

What part is needed to correct this problem?

Thank you.

I am afraid that this unit is really too old for me to give you any good advice on. It's great that it has lasted so long, way beyond its normal life and I think you should celebrate your good fortune in getting so many years of life out of it by buying a new one.

In our area the big box retailers have similar models on sale for $R300.00 or less, and that is what I recommend you do.
