I'm sorry if this is a redundant question. My issue is a little different than the other posts I've reviewed.

When the freezer goes into defrost mode (presumably), the ice cubes in the ice bowl begin to melt. The freezer reads 3-4 degrees, which shouldn't melt ice, but it does. Once the defrost cycle has completed, the ice in the compartment re-freezes into a chunky mess. This happens daily.

As a result and secondary issue, the auger assembly needs to be replaced from trying to dispense ice after a defrost cycle. I think I've found the replacement part for that (ice bucket/auger assembly - $150).

Any help and advise is appreciated.

PS - I'm not good with testing parts/connections using an electric meter.

When the fridg goes into defrost, does the freezer fan run?

Hi, thanks for the reply. Good question, I have not payed very close attention to whether the fan runs during the defrost cycle.

Let me monitor whether or not this is happening and I'll reply back.

ALSO - What is a GOOD brand/model of refrigerator to purchase right now? IF I need to spend more than a few hundred dollars, I might as well buy a new one, no?

You allready have the best fridg on the market although GE likes to gouge on parts. To prevent future problems, add a 1000 joule surge protector to the wall outlet available at Wall Mart $9.00.
